The sleepy life

So, I suppose you know that summer has really started when you find yourself still in your bed at 2:30pm.

Whee, productivity, what even is that? ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yeah, for the last few days I’ve done as little as possible and enjoyed it. ย I had my rewrite on Friday morning, and once I get the results back from that (felt like a pass but I’m never 100% sure on that, and always plagued by doubts on that front – whee anxiety) I’m free for the summer for real! Though I’m certainly acting like I’m free already, given my excessive sleeping and lallygagging ๐Ÿ™‚ One of the meds that I’m on messes with your sleep a bit, so I’m trying to get some more sleep to make up for it. ย It’s so funny to try and get your bodies circadian rhythms to change – my body is so used to the 11pm-7am grind of medical school that I find myself waking up at 8 or 9 am anyways, and now I consider 1am “super late.”

I am so old ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yeah, I’ve also been a shut in for the last few days because I, in the true nature of irony, have managed to do something to my foot…two weeks before my trip to Europe.

Sigh. #hobblingthrougheurope

But yeah, I think it’s plantar fasciitis, which sucks ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But I am trying everything I can to make my recovery as quick as possible – stretching and icing it, doing core and glut exercises to offset strength and trying to rest it as much possible. ย I also splurged and bought a kick ass pair of running shoes with arch support and support insoles, theย Asics Gel Nimbus 17 which look like this:

W.A6.Nimbus17Thereby insuring that I will never lose them in the dark ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously, they’re great shoes, but why do the women’s ones only come in bright blue and pink and the men’s ones come in like, black and white?

But yeah, foot thing aside I’m 11 days from Europe and 2 days from going home to Nova Scotia to see my family, and I’m starting to get super excited!! I’m almost all packed, and to make it as easy as possible to travel I’m going to be living out of this little carry on for the next month and a half:

So that ought to be an adventure in it’s self ๐Ÿ˜‰ Honestly though, I really have like 10 major elements of clothing I wear regularly, because I’m not a clothes horse in the least (no matter what my mother and her opinion on how many tops I own thinks ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) so I’m not really worried about that. ย So long as I can find a laundry at some point on the trip I’ll be fine, and if I can’t well…I guess I’ll still be fine, just smelly ๐Ÿ˜‰

However, tomorrow I’m finally leaving my apartment again, breaking my three day streak as a hermit so I can get blood work done and look into some tech stuff for Monte Carlo, our MUN Med fundraiser that forย some crazy reason I took an executive position planning so I’m also going to use that time to get some more travel stuff I need. ย I’ve already got a power bank for my cellphone, because my phone dying was a serious problem the last trip that lead to having to remember my way back to the hotel from memory in Paris and having to walk down a few dark alleys which I do not recommend! So yeah, this is the one I got:

8024184lThe Nexxtech 10,000 mAh one, which should be able to charge my phone 3 times over when it’s fully charged itself. ย For anyone looking at overseas travel I 100% recommend splurging and getting a power bank (see dark alley argument from above) because you do not want to be stuck in a foreign country with no means of communication! ย I’m also looking for another adaptor/convertor for my appliances, because I just had an adaptor before and didn’t really understand the voltage differences and maybe, sort of…exploded my hair dryer in London.

I’m also getting my hair dyed tomorrow before my trip (so that all of the ridiculous number of pics I take on the trip will appease my vanity ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and then I’m going to meet up with a friend for dinner and a movie night because she has never seen Silence of the Lambs, which happens to be my favourite movie ever, and that is just a travesty that I cannot stand for ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yeah, on the subject of the blog when I’m travelling. ย I am going to try and do what I did the last trip – try to post pics from each place and do a bit of a travel blog thing as I am travelling, but I might need some patience there because as I refuse to take my mac overseas where I might lose it, I’m going to be blogging with either a tablet or my phone again, and the WordPress interface does not reward uploading photos with your phone (not sure about tablet yet, going to have to experiment with that). Additionally, given that I also have to upload to Facebook each night because otherwise my mother and family become sad and demanding ๐Ÿ˜‰ it ends up taking me an hour and a half each night to upload, and that’s on top of already being exhausted each night!

So yeah, accidental soapbox aside there, I will be trying to stay on top of the blog while in Europe, but if I’m a little slow/there are fewer pics this time from each place, that’s why, and I’ll try to make it up afterwards I promise ๐Ÿ™‚

Also it’s like 7:30pm here…and I want to nap ๐Ÿ˜‰

The sleepy life for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Congrats on officially surviving 1st year! 2nd and 3rd are more challenging in some ways, but so much more interesting and studying feels so much more worth it the further you get into medical education. Have a great time in Europe (in your cute shoes)!

    • Thank you! Yeah, that seems to be the consensus that everyone has on the next few years! And yes, the shoes have really actually grown on me so I certainly will ๐Ÿ˜‰
